Mindfulness and Winnie the Pooh

This article is inspired by a heartwarming quote from Winnie the Pooh

Piglet: “How do you spell love?”

Winnie the Pooh: “You don’t spell it, you feel it!”

Sometimes we are so caught up in day to day life that we don’t let ourselves really feel our emotions. Usually we don’t have time, or we just don’t allow ourselves to be in the moment to go through the emotions of an event.

Well here is your reminder to STOP! Take a moment and really notice how you are feeling. Are you tired, stressed, overwhelmed, happy, emotional, excited, nervous, content?

There are thousands of thoughts that run through our brain every day. And attached to each thought are feelings. If we aren’t processing or allowing ourselves to feel our emotions, it is so easy to feel frazzled and fragile.

If we aren’t taking time out for our emotions, our bodies physically make us pay attention. Such as suddenly crying mid conversation, finding it hard to breathe when you feel anxious or having a panic attack.

Paying attention to your feelings is a great way to be mindful. Every morning when you wake up, check in with yourself and notice how you are feeling. If you don’t like the feeling, then take a few deep abdominal breaths and visualise pushing that feeling out of your head. Bring in a new positive feeling to take its place. You can do this little exercise as often as you like.

Remember it is okay to feel - acceptance is a key component of mindfulness. There is no need to be tough and resilient all the time. You can have your highs and lows, it doesn’t make you less of a person. In fact, it actually makes you human.
