Feeling Worried? Read This!

As humans we tend to worry about certain things and situations in life. This starts from a young age. Remember when you were a child and all the things you used to worry about. It could have been anything from making friends at school, making sure you didn’t miss the bus or getting in trouble because you left your homework at home.

Now as an adult, the type of things we worry about are slightly different. For example, financial stress, moving to a new house, juggling a family, raising children and finding time for yourself and so much more. All of these worries are warranted and valid. The important thing is how we deal with our worries.

Have one guess as to what can help us let go of our worries... that’s right - MEDITATION!

Meditation won’t just magically fix your worry or make it disappear, but it can help you strengthen your mind and shift your perspective about your worries.

Visualisation is a great aspect of meditation that can help distant you from your worries. If you are feeling overwhelmed by any worries, use the following visualisation:

·      Close your eyes and take two slow deep breaths.

·      In your mind, imagine yourself blowing up a balloon. It can be any colour that you wish.

·      Once the balloon is fully inflated, place your worry inside the balloon. Your worry could be in the form of a picture, person, thing or words. What every you feel comfortable with.

·      Now just sit with your worry inside the balloon as you hold the string that the balloon is attached to in your hand.

·      Imagine yourself taking a really deep breath and then release the string of the balloon. Watch the balloon filled with your worry float away. See it float into the distance, so far into the distance that it looks like a little miniscule spec.

·      An alternative to letting your balloon filled with your worry float away, is to see the balloon pop and burst into many little pieces. Whichever option you like, feel free to visualise.

·      The main point is for your worry to drift off or disappear. If you have multiple worries, then you are going to need multiple balloons.

·      Once your balloon isn’t visible in your mind then take two more slow deep breaths and open your eyes.

·      This can be completed daily if you are feeling overly worried. Or it can be practised whenever you feel the need.

Such a simple little activity can help you clear your mind and step aside from the worry. Don’t let it overwhelm you and take over your every thought. Use meditation and your mindfulness tools to help you live a better life.

What are you waiting for…fill those balloons and let them drift away out of sight and out of mind!
